Château de Villevieille
The Château de Villevieille was built in 1041 by the Count of Melgueil. 1053 changed the ownership to the King of France. After its destruction by the Katharerkriege the building was rebuilt in the 13th century. 1622 visited Louis XIII. the castle to prepare from there the siege of Sommières. During the French Revolution the castle was, unlike almost all the noble houses of the region, spared because the owner was a friend of the Enlightenment philosopher Voltaire. Instead, it was damaged by the German occupiers during World War II. The building is still owned by descendants of the Counts of Villevieille.
