The remains of the Castle can be visited

The ruin of a medieval rock castle, the Château de Wineck (also known as Windeck), rises above the Winecker Valley near Dambach in Alsace. Its history dates back to the 13th century.

Archaeological investigations suggest that the castle was built in the 13th century. Its first documented mention occurred in 1338 as “Hauß Windecken,” at which time it was owned by the knight Johann Marsilius von Saarbrücken. In 1517, the castle was granted as a fief to Wolf Eckbrecht von Dürckheim, along with the nearby Château de Schœneck. It is believed that the Château de Wineck was destroyed around 1680, also together with Château de Schœneck.
