Above Ribeauvillé in the Upper Rhine region of France, lies the castle ruin Château du Girsberg. This historic site, once home to the Lords of Girsberg, offers a glimpse into the medieval architecture and history of the region.
History+
First documented in 1288, the castle received its current name from the nobles of Girsberg, who owned it in the 14th and 15th centuries. After a siege and conquest by the Lords of Rappoltstein in the early 15th century, the complex was abandoned at the beginning of the 16th century and left to decay. Since 1841, the ruin has been a classified historical monument.
