Château du Grand Mécoras

The Château du Grand Mécoras, a historic 14th-century castle, is situated in the picturesque Rhône-Alpes region of France. Once the center of the Mécoras lordship in the municipality of Ruffieux, it bears witness to a rich past and is a remarkable example of the architecture of its era.
History+
The fortified house originally belonged to the Montfalcon family, who had settled in Chautagne as early as the 11th century. In 1370, Henry de Montfalcon was mentioned as the Lord of Flaxieu. Through inheritance and marriage, the castle changed hands multiple times over the centuries within the Montfalcon family and their descendants. During the French Revolution, the Château was confiscated and sold as national property in Year III. Later, through repurchase and inheritance, it returned to the possession of descendants of the original owners. In 1964, Paul Feuga, an industrialist and descendant of the Girod-Montfalcon family, acquired the property and initiated extensive restoration work. Parts of the castle have been protected as historical monuments since 1969.
