Château du Haut-Ribeaupierre
The Château du Haut-Ribeaupierre is a castle ruin above Ribeauvillé in Upper Alsace. Presumably the oldest of the three castles in this area.
History+
The origins of the Château du Haut-Ribeaupierre likely date back to the early 12th century. The complex was first documented in 1084 when Emperor Henry IV gifted it to the Diocese of Basel. After being temporarily reclaimed by his son Henry V in 1114, the donation was reconfirmed by Emperor Frederick Barbarossa to the Diocese of Basel in 1162. The castle bore various names, including Rapolstein and Altenkastel. In the 16th century, the castle was abandoned and fell into ruin.

The castle ruin is at an altitude of approximately 635 meters above sea level near Ribeauvillé in the Haut-Rhin department, in the Grand Est region of France.
