History+
The origins of the Château du Kagenfels date back to 1262, when Albrecht von Kage, a ministerialis of the Bishop of Strasbourg, initiated its construction. The castle changed hands multiple times, being owned by noble families such as the Hohensteins, Utenheims, and Ramsteins. A significant expansion of the complex occurred in 1559 under Lucas Wischbech. Just four years later, in 1563, the city of Obernai acquired the property. However, its fate was sealed during the Thirty Years' War, when the castle was destroyed.

The ruins of the Château du Kagenfels are located in the commune of Ottrott in the French department of Bas-Rhin, which belongs to the Grand Est region. It is situated at an altitude of approximately 661 meters above sea level.
