Château du Nouveau-Windstein

Contrary to earlier assumptions suggesting its construction after 1332 by Wilhelm von Windstein, late Romanesque and early Gothic stylistic elements indicate that the Château du Nouveau-Windstein must have been built in the first half of the 13th century. In the 14th and 15th centuries, the castle was jointly owned by various noble families, including the Lords of Lichtenberg, the Counts of Leiningen, the Electoral Palatinate, and the Eckebrecht von Dürkheim. After the extinction of the Lords of Windstein in 1480 with Hans Ostertags von Windstein, the castle came into the sole possession of the Eckebrecht von Dürkheim in the second half of the 17th century.
