Château du Pin Macé

To be privately owned

The Château du Pin-Macé (also written Pin Macé or Pin-Massé) is a historic château located in the commune of Saint-Georges-de-Pointindoux, in the Vendée department of the Pays de la Loire region in western France (in the former canton of La Mothe-Achard).

The estate takes its name from the Massé (or Macé) family, who owned it in the 15th century. Savary Massé, a knight, was seigneur of Pin Massé. The property then passed to his descendants, including Jean Massé, Jean Goion de La Grole and, from 1466, Guyon de Coesme, followed by Jacques and François de Coesme.

In the 16th century the logis belonged to Jean de Montauzier, a knight of the Order of the King and husband of Madeleine des Chasteigners. In 1593 it was divided among their five daughters. Around 1740 the estate was acquired by Samuel-Jacques Mercier and his wife Marie-Ursule de Courcelles. Their son, Pierre-Gilles Mercier du Pin, a lieutenant in the Poitiers battalion, inherited it but was killed by Republican troops in 1794.

Around 1800 the château was sold to the lawyer René-François Dorion, sieur de La Touche and mayor of La Mothe-Achard, and his wife Marie-Anne Porchier de La Thibaudière. It later passed by inheritance to Maurice Sanson de Bricville (long-time mayor of Saint-Georges-de-Pointindoux), then to his cousin Marguerite Marc, wife of Colonel Paul Dumas-Vence (son of an admiral), and subsequently to their daughters. In 2021 the domain was acquired by the Tesson family, descendants of the Dorion line.

The present château essentially dates from the 18th century. It remains a private property.
