Château du Wasenbourg

The Château du Wasenbourg, a castle ruin in Alsace, is on a 438-meter-high spur of the Reisberg mountain. It overlooks Niederbronn-les-Bains and the Falkensteinerbach valley, a connection between Bitche and the Upper Rhine Plain. The site is known for its well-preserved wall remnants and offers insight into medieval defensive architecture.
History+
The exact founding date of the Château du Wasenbourg is unknown, but a ducal castle may have stood on this site as early as 730. Historical records confirm an expansion of the castle in 1280 by Konrad von Lichtenberg. The castle changed hands multiple times, including pledges in 1378 to Wilhelm von Burn and in 1407, each followed by a redemption by the Lords of Lichtenberg.
