In Vannes, Brittany, the Château-Gaillard is a late medieval castle that today houses an archaeological museum. It was originally built as an administrative seat for Cardinal Jean de Malestroit.

History+

The construction of the Château-Gaillard was completed in 1410. It initially served as an administrative building for Cardinal Jean de Malestroit. In 1912, the historical society Société polymathique du Morbihan acquired the building with the intention of establishing a new museum there. The inauguration of the museum's new collections took place on September 22, 1914, by the then French President Raymond Poincaré. As early as 1913, the Château-Gaillard was placed under federal protection by the Ministry of Culture.
