Château Hauteville (Saint-Légier-La Chiésaz)

Below Saint-Légier-La Chiésaz is Hauteville Castle, built in 1740 by Pierre Cannac on the site of an older castle. Cannac died in 1785 at the age of 80. The property then passed to Daniel Grand de la Chaise, a banker from Amsterdam, who adopted the name Grand d'Hauteville after the purchase. His descendants still inhabit the castle today. It is one of the most important Baroque castles in the Canton of Vaud. The three-winged complex encloses a large courtyard of honor. The castle boasts rich Baroque interior furnishings and wall and ceiling paintings from the time of its construction.
