Below Saint-Légier-La Chiésaz is Hauteville Castle, built in 1740 by Pierre Cannac on the site of an older castle. Cannac died in 1785 at the age of 80. The property then passed to Daniel Grand de la Chaise, a banker from Amsterdam, who adopted the name Grand d'Hauteville after the purchase.
