Château La Sarraz

The origins of Château La Sarraz possibly date back to the 12th century, when it was built by the Lords of Grandson. Later, the Savoyard Lords of Montferrand-La Sarra gained influence. In 1475, the complex was destroyed by the Bernese during the Burgundian Wars. Following the death of Barthélemy of Montferrand-La Sarra, the last of his lineage, the estate passed to his nephew Michel Mangerot. The fortress suffered further destruction in 1536 during the Bernese conquest of Vaud. In 1542, François de Gingins acquired the lordship of La Sarraz, which remained in his family's possession until 1901.
