Château Lanessan

Château Lanessan, a castle located in the commune of Cussac in the French department of Gironde, is today a winery in the Haut-Médoc wine region known for its wines.
History+
The earliest records show that Dame Paironne la Montagne, the widow of Henry de Lanessan, sold the estate on January 15, 1310, to Sieur de Blaignan. In 1793, Jean Delbos, a former shipowner, acquired the property. In the 19th century, Lanessan, then known as Dubosqc, was listed as a Quatrième Cru by Lawton in 1815 and received mentions in Cocks & Féret. Louis Delbos, Jean Delbos' son, did not submit samples for the Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855, believing that the classification would add nothing to the estate's reputation. In 1858, the château's cellarmaster, Jean Pineau, was hired by the Spanish Marqués de Riscal to improve wine quality in the Rioja region. The current castle building was constructed in 1878 by André Delbos in a mock-Tudor style, while the wine cellars are in the traditional Médoc style.
