History+
The history of the estate is relatively young compared to other châteaux in the region, as the land along the Gironde was drained and cultivated late. Originally part of the Calon estate, the grounds passed to Etienne Dumoulin in 1778. At that time, it was barren heathland, whose pink-flowering heather is said to have given the property its name “Montrose” (pink mountain). Dumoulin's son Théodore began cultivating vines in 1815 and built a manor house in 1820. In 1824, he separated from a large part of Calon and focused on Montrose, continuously expanding its vineyards.
