History+
The origins of the lands on which Château Mouton-Rothschild now stands date back to the early 14th century. In 1311, the areas belonged to Pons de Castillon. After various changes of ownership, including to Humphrey, Duke of Gloucester, and later to the Foix family, a smaller part of the property came into the hands of the notary Jacques de Ségur. He established the first vineyards around 1670. Following further sales and its renaming to Château Brane-Mouton in 1720, the winery experienced a flourishing period. In 1853, the banker Nathaniel de Rothschild acquired the estate and invested significantly in its improvement.
