Château Pontet-Canet

Château Pontet-Canet in Pauillac, Gironde, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France, is known today as a wine estate. It produces wines classified as Cinquième Grand Cru since 1855.
History+
The lands on which Château Pontet-Canet stands can be traced back to the early 14th century, when they were owned by the feudal lord Pons de Castillon. In the 15th century, the lands belonged to Humphrey, Duke of Gloucester, before passing into French hands after the Hundred Years' War. François de Pontet, governor of Médoc, acquired the southern part of the estate. His descendants expanded the property in 1757 by purchasing the plot of land named Canet, after which the wine became known as Pontet-Canet. In 1855, the estate was included in the classification of Bordeaux wines as a Fifth Growth.
