Château Rauzan-Ségla

Vineyard

Château Rauzan-Ségla, a historic castle in Margaux, Gironde, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France, is a winery and was classified as a Deuxième Cru Classé in the 1855 classification.

History+

The origins of the winery date back to 1661, when the merchant Pierre des Mesures de Rausan acquired the estate from the de Gassies family. This property later gave rise to several châteaux in the region. After Rausan's death in 1692, his sons managed the Margaux estate. Further divisions occurred, with Château Desmirail and Château Marquis de Terme being separated. The split into Rauzan-Gassies and Rauzan-Ségla officially took place in 1763. Future US President Thomas Jefferson visited the estate in 1787.
