Château Rosey (Bursins)

The Château of Commarin, located in the municipality of Commarin in the Côte-d'Or department, is a historic building dating back to the 12th century. It is classified as a Monument Historique.

From the 12th to the 17th Century

The first lords of Commarin were mentioned in the 12th century. The château was originally a medieval fortress, of which only the foundations remain today. It was rebuilt in the 16th century and transformed by Cugnet towards the end of the 19th century.

In 1346, the Commarin family died out. The estate passed to the Chabot family through marriage, then to the Dinteville family, and finally, in 1525, to the Vienne family.

In 1622, Charles de Vienne undertook major reconstruction work, giving the château its current appearance. He had the two main wings built, as well as the chapel and the stables.

From the 18th Century to the Present Day

In the 18th century, the château underwent further alterations, particularly to the interior. The French-style gardens were also created at this time.

During the French Revolution, the château was confiscated as national property but was bought back by the Vienne family in 1803.

The château is still privately owned today and is regularly open to visitors. It is also used for cultural events and receptions.

The Château of Commarin is an imposing brick and stone building, characterized by its classical architecture. It consists of two main wings forming an L-shape, flanked by round towers.

The main facade, facing south, is adorned with a central avant-corps topped by a pediment. The windows are decorated with sculptures and cornices.

The interior of the château houses numerous richly furnished rooms, including a grand salon, a dining room, a library, and a chapel. The ceilings are decorated with frescoes and stucco.

The gardens of the Château of Commarin are French-style gardens, designed in the 18th century. They extend over several hectares and include parterres, bosquets, and water features.

A remarkable element of the gardens is the orangery, a large glass building housing citrus trees in winter.

The gardens are regularly maintained and offer a pleasant setting for walks and relaxation.
