The Castle was built from the Weißenburg Monastery. 1070 was an expansion of the castle. 1270 the defenses were strengthened. 1470 and 1522/23 in the Peasants' War the castle was destroyed. After that the present castle was built. Owners were the lords of Leiningen and the lords of Fleckenstein.
