Château Saint-Saphorin-sur-Morges

The neoclassical building was constructed in the 17th century on the remains of a fortified house. At the beginning of the 16th century, two ruling families shared the area where the castle was later to be built: the aristocrats of Saint-Saphorin and those of Colombier. This is why it now features two watchtowers. The Colombiers ceased to be owners in the mid-16th century when Marguerite de Colombier married François d'Allinges. Their daughter, Elisabeth d'Allinges, married André de Pesmes in 1592, a member of a noble family from Franche-Comté, established in Geneva since the 14th century. It was not until 1711 that François-Louis de Pesmes succeeded in uniting the lordships around the castle's territory. After his death in 1737, the castle passed into the possession of the de Mestral family.
