History+
The construction of Château Yverdon took place between 1260 and 1270 under the direction of Peter II and was carried out by Jacques de Saint-Georges. Its primary purpose was the defense of the city. Initially, Savoyard feudal lords inhabited the structure. Following the conquest by the Bernese in 1536, officials appointed by Bern took over the residence. With the establishment of the canton of Vaud in 1803, the city of Yverdon acquired the castle. This allowed the educator Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi to establish his school there.
