In the county of Kent, United Kingdom, is Chevening House. Today, it serves as the official residence of the British Foreign Secretary and Deputy Prime Minister.

History+

The main house of Chevening House was built in the first half of the 17th century, possibly based on designs by the architect Inigo Jones. In 1715, James Stanhope, 1st Earl Stanhope, acquired the estate and, from 1717, added the side wings and connecting elements. Later, between 1786 and 1796, the facade of the central building was redesigned by James Wyatt under Charles Stanhope, 3rd Earl Stanhope. The house was bequeathed to the United Kingdom.
