Christophorus Church

The earliest traces of the Christophoruskirche date back to the 11th century, evidenced by a red consecration cross on a Gothic fresco. The church was first documented in 1243. The oldest surviving bell, cast around 1250, is also the oldest in Dresden. Early 15th-century renovations included the decoration of the church interior with frescoes, which were later painted over and only uncovered and restored between 1972 and 1985. With the Reformation in 1539, the church became evangelical. The current altar was created between 1570 and 1580. In 1637, Swedish troops plundered the offering box, which has been back in use since 1967.
