Deutschherren-Ordenshaus

Above the Catholic parish church is the former Teutonic Order House, first mentioned in a document in 1239 as the "Deutsches Huis zu Brettbach". The commandery, belonging to the Teutonic Order Bailiwick of Koblenz, owned approximately 400 acres of land in the 18th century. After the property was confiscated by the Duchy of Nassau (1809) following the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss, Hermann, Prince of Wied, purchased the estate. After his death, it served various purposes - as a girls' school, kindergarten, outpatient clinic, and most recently as a nursing home for the Franciscan Sisters of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary of the Angels, named Commende Rosa-Stift after its founder Rosa Flesch. The property had not been used since 1988. The complex, which had fallen into disrepair, was acquired by a private investor in 2008. The building was renovated in 2009/2010 in the style of the early Baroque core building erected in 1703, taking into account monument preservation concerns, and now serves as a residential and commercial building.
