Dianaburg Castle

The Dianaburg (coordinates) is a former hunting lodge on the 412 m above sea level wooded basalt peak Kesselberg. The castle, built in the spirit of Romanticism, was modeled after a tower of the Charles Bridge in Prague. The enthusiastic hunter Ferdinand zu Solms-Braunfels had the Dianaburg built in 1842/43 near his Braunfels Castle. After the death of the prince in 1873, the castle served as the residence of the district forester. From 1898, it was converted into an excursion restaurant. After 1969, the outbuildings were demolished; only the tower remained. In 2008, the dilapidated roof covering of the main tower and that of the four corner towers were re-covered with natural slate. The Dianaburg is now owned by Johannes Graf von Oppersdorf Solms-Braunfels. It is open for viewing from April to November on the first Sunday of every month.
