Dominican Convent

The convent, dedicated to the Holy Cross, was founded in 1233. Unlike many other monasteries in Bavaria, it was not dissolved during the secularization at the beginning of the 19th century. This was achieved through the establishment of a girls' school, allowing the convent to continue to exist to this day. The monastery gained particular historical importance in 1853 when Prioress Mother Maria Benedicta Bauer sent sisters to America. This initiative led to the founding of a total of twelve American congregations, all of which trace their origins back to the Dominican Convent of Heilig Kreuz in Regensburg.

The convent is situated in the city of Regensburg in Bavaria, Germany. It is located at an elevation of approximately 342 meters above sea level and is protected as a historical monument in Bavaria.

The Dominican Convent of Heilig Kreuz remains active today and continues to serve as a place of work for the order. The historic building fabric is designated as a protected monument.
