Kloster Schwarzhofen

The origins of the convent date back to 1244, when it was founded as a Dominican women's establishment. This foundation was carried out by Counts Rapoto IV and Diepold of Ortenburg-Murach, who thus offered a new home to a group of pious women from Regensburg. After its destruction during wartime conflicts, monastic life in Schwarzhofen ceased for several centuries. It was not until 1691 that a refoundation took place by the Regensburg Dominicans, who initiated the construction of new convent buildings. In the 18th century, the convent faced financial difficulties and was placed under state administration. As part of the secularization, the convent was finally dissolved in 1802. The convent church was demolished in the following years, while the remaining buildings were later used by the Poor School Sisters and as a retirement home.

The former convent is located in Schwarzhofen, a district of the town of Neunburg vorm Wald, in the Schwandorf district in Bavaria, Germany.

Today, parts of the former convent complex are preserved and are listed as historical monuments. The buildings were used in the 19th century by the Poor School Sisters as a convent and girls' school, as well as a retirement home.
