The monastery was founded in 1246 when the Dominican Order established itself in Neuruppin. Over the centuries, the Dominicans shaped the religious and cultural life of the region. The monastery existed until around 1541, when it was dissolved during the Reformation and the associated secularization. This dissolution marked the end of its monastic use and the beginning of a new phase in the complex's history.
