Dominikanerkloster Frankfurt am Main

The Dominican Monastery in Frankfurt am Main, a significant cultural monument in Germany, was founded in 1233. Situated at an elevation of approximately 102 meters above sea level, it stands as a testament to the long history of the Dominicans in this region. Today, the monastery houses important ecclesiastical institutions and serves as a meeting place.
History+
The establishment of the Dominican Monastery in 1233 marked the beginning of a long presence of the Dominican Order in Frankfurt. Over the centuries, the monastery evolved into a significant religious and intellectual center. In 1803, the monastery's property came under municipal ownership. After its complete destruction in an air raid in 1944, the building was reconstructed between 1955 and 1957, following the original plans and proportions in a post-war architectural style. Of the original Gothic complex, only the late Gothic choir of the Heiliggeistkirche, built in 1470, remains.
Location+
The Dominican Monastery is located in the city of Frankfurt am Main, in the federal state of Hesse, Germany. Its central location within the city makes it an easily accessible historical site.
