Stuttgart Cathedral

After the Catholic denomination received royal protection in Württemberg from 1806, an independent Catholic parish was established in Stuttgart. Initially housed in the French Church, the congregation was allocated a building plot on Königstraße by King Friedrich I in 1807. The foundation stone for the first new Catholic church building since the Reformation was laid in 1808. The consecration took place in 1811 by Auxiliary Bishop Karl von Hohenlohe, who, at the king's instruction, named the church after Count Eberhard im Bart. However, as he was not an official saint, Saint Eberhard I of Salzburg and Blessed Eberhard VI of Nellenburg were later designated as patrons.
