On the Palatine Hill in Rome is the Domus Tiberiana, an ancient palace complex whose origins date back to the time of Emperor Tiberius. It is located between the Temple of Magna Mater and the Roman Forum.

History+

The complex was originally built under Emperor Tiberius, likely by combining several late Republican houses, and was initially a modest residence. The Domus Tiberiana underwent expansion and design under Emperor Caligula, who extended it to the Roman Forum and integrated the Temple of Castor and Pollux into its antechamber. This northern expansion largely corresponded to the current area. A fire in 80 AD destroyed large parts of the palace.
