Drogo Castle

In the county of Devon, United Kingdom, is Castle Drogo. It is considered the last country house built in Great Britain and combines medieval and Tudor style elements with modern accents. The granite structure stands above the gorge of the River Teign.
History+
Construction of the castle began in 1910 under the direction of architect Edwin Lutyens. The client was businessman Julius Drewe, founder of the Home and Colonial Stores. Although construction ceased in 1930 due to financial difficulties. Since 1974, Castle Drogo has belonged to the National Trust and was the first 20th-century property acquired by the trust.
