Duart Castle

The Castle can be visited

On a rocky promontory on the Isle of Mull in Scotland stands Duart Castle. It is the ancestral seat of Clan MacLean and its history dates back to the 13th century.

History+

The origins of Duart Castle lie in the 13th century. For centuries, it served as the center of power for Clan MacLean. Following the defeat of the Jacobites in 1691, the complex, which had suffered damage during the uprising, was occupied by an English garrison. In 1751, the castle was abandoned and fell into disrepair. It was not until the early 20th century that Clan MacLean reacquired the ruin.
