Ebernburg Castle

The first documented mentions of the name "Ebernburc" date back to 1206, although the exact attribution to the castle or the locality is not clear. It is certain, however, that Raugraf Ruprecht and Count Johann von Sponheim-Kreuznach built the castle in 1338. From 1448, the lordship of Ebernburg came into the possession of the Sickingen family. Under Schweickhardt von Sickingen and his son Franz von Sickingen, the castle was expanded and reinforced with artillery in 1482. In 1523, the castle was burned down as a result of the Trier Feud, but was rebuilt in 1542. During the Palatinate War of Succession in 1697, it was again razed and subsequently used as a quarry.
