Rosenstein Palais

The first documented mention of Rosenstein occurred in 1639, when it was owned by Gundaker Hugl, who also held the Maglburg. In the same year, Emperor Ferdinand III granted Rosenstein noble freedoms. After Hugl's death, the property passed to Dr. Franz Posch, a former Lambach court judge, who subsequently called himself “zum Rosenstein.” Later, the noble seat came into the possession of Maria Clara von Salburg through inheritance, who used it as a widow's residence. A Grieskirchen councilor, Franz Gottlieb Stockhammer, acquired Rosenstein and was ennobled by Empress Maria Theresia in 1759 with the predicate “von Rosenstein.” As he died childless, the property likely passed to bourgeois owners after his death and that of his wife in 1764.
