The Edith-Stein-Karmel was founded in 1978 with the signing of the foundation charter by Bishop Georg Moser. The monastery was dedicated to the Carmelite saint and martyr Edith Stein. The Carmelites, a reform branch of the Order of Mount Carmel founded around 1150, led a contemplative life in enclosure. Their daily routine was characterized by internal prayer, communal Liturgy of the Hours, daily Mass, and work in silence. The monastery's chapel featured stained glass windows by Sieger Köder. After 30 years of existence, the anniversary of its establishment was celebrated in 2008. Due to the small number of only two sisters remaining, the monastery was dissolved in 2011.
