Edzell Castle

Edzell Castle is a ruin complex in the Scottish landscape. Particularly noteworthy is the artfully designed garden that surrounds the remains of the castle.

The origins of Edzell Castle date back to around 1520, when David Lindsay, the 9th Earl of Crawford, initiated its construction. His son, Sir David Lindsay – Lord Edzell, contributed to the expansion of the complex and created the garden, still visible today, in 1604. In 1715, ownership changed hands again within the Lindsay family, before the complex became state property in 1930.
Location+
The ruin is located near Edzell in the Angus district of Scotland, part of the United Kingdom. It stands at an elevation of approximately 58 meters above sea level.
