St. Matthäus

The church's origins date back to 1271, when the monastery church of St. Maria, belonging to the Dominican convent of Frauenaurach, was completed. Over the centuries, the sacred building experienced multiple destructions and reconstructions, which repeatedly altered its appearance. Since the 16th century, the building has served as an Evangelical-Lutheran parish church and is known as St. Matthäus.

The church is situated in Frauenaurach, a district of the independent city of Erlangen in Middle Franconia, Bavaria. It is part of the Erlangen-Höchstadt district.

The church is listed as a historical monument in the Bavarian Monument List and is currently used as an Evangelical-Lutheran parish church. The structure presents itself as a hall church with a choir to the east. A church tower, added to the north wall of the nave in the west in 1707, was extended by two storeys in 1717 and topped with a Welsch cap. The uppermost storey of the tower houses the clock and the belfry with four church bells. Inside, there is an organ with 19 registers, installed in 1960.
