The origins of the estate are closely tied to the Cistercian Langheim Abbey, founded in the 12th century, which was among the most influential monasteries in Franconia. The court in Kulmbach functioned as an outpost, managing and cultivating the monastic estates in the surrounding area. Such economic courts, also known as granges, were typical for Cistercian monasteries and played a central role in their economic self-sufficiency. Following the secularization at the beginning of the 19th century, which marked the end of many monasteries in Bavaria, the monastery court passed into secular ownership and was subsequently used for civil purposes.

This historic building is situated in the city of Kulmbach, within the Upper Franconia administrative district of Bavaria. Kulmbach lies at the confluence of the Red and White Main rivers and is renowned for its rich history and the surrounding hilly landscape.

Today, the former Langheim Monastery Court is protected as an architectural monument, bearing witness to the region's monastic past. Its historical structure has been preserved and contributes to the urban landscape of Kulmbach.
