The origins of the Provost's Building are closely tied to the Augustinian Canons Regular Monastery of St. Zeno, which had a long tradition in Berchtesgaden. Following secularization and the associated dissolution of many monasteries in Bavaria, the building underwent a change of use. In 1852, it became the seat of the Institute of the English Ladies, which commenced its educational work here and continues it to this day. This transformation marks an important point in the building's history, as it received a new purpose.
