The estate was an integral part of the Carthusian Monastery of Grünau and functioned as an economic farm. Over the centuries, it secured the material basis for the Carthusian monastery, whose monks dedicated themselves to a strict, contemplative life. The development of the estate is closely linked to the history of the mother monastery, which was dissolved during secularization, causing the monastic estate to lose its original function as well.

The monastic estate is situated in the Free State of Bavaria in Germany. It is nestled into the landscape and reflects the historical settlement structure of the region, which was often shaped by monastic foundations.

Today, the former monastic estate is designated as a historical monument in Bavaria. The open three-winged complex is a preserved example of the economic architecture of past centuries and can be regarded as a testament to the monastic cultural landscape.
