Eppensteiner Castle (Schotten)

The castle was built in 1324 by Gottfried von Eppstein. In 1382 the castle was destroyed by the Rhenish League of Cities, because the Lords of Rodenstein plundered through the land. In 1391, Wolfgang Schenk zu Schweinsberg began rebuilding the Trimberg parts of the castle after an agreement with Eberhard von Eppstein. Johann von Rodenstein began building the Eppenstein parts of the castle at the same time. In 1403 the reconstruction was completed. In 1636 the castle was destroyed by Lower Hessian troops. It was rebuilt here. In 1852 the castle was set on fire and rebuilt in 1853.
