Grand Duke Palace

The construction of the Hereditary Grand Ducal Palace took place between 1891 and 1897. It served as the residence for the then Hereditary Grand Duke Friedrich II of Baden and his consort Hilda of Nassau. Even after Friedrich ascended the throne in 1907, the couple remained in this residence. During World War II, the building suffered damage, particularly to the attic and roof domes. It was not until 2010 to 2012 that the mansard roof was faithfully reconstructed. The design of the surrounding garden, covering an area of approximately four hectares, was already planned on the north side in 1817 by Friedrich Weinbrenner.
