The origins of Beuron Abbey trace back to approximately 1077, when a collegiate church of Augustinian Canons was established here. This foundation, dedicated to Saints Martin and Mary, evolved over centuries and was closely linked to regional noble families. Throughout its history, it underwent various developments and attempts to solidify its independence. In the course of secularization, the Augustinian collegiate church was dissolved in 1802. A new beginning for monastic life occurred in 1863, when Benedictine monks refounded the monastery, elevating it to the Archabbey of St. Martin.
