Evangelische Kirche

The Evangelical Church of Münster, a former cathedral, stands as a significant Romanesque edifice in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Its distinctive architectural style and rich history establish it as a prominent cultural monument in the region.
History+
The church in Münster, originally consecrated to All Saints, was constructed in the 13th century and served as the mother church for the surrounding area. The patronage of the sacred building was held by Hohenlohe as a fief of Würzburg. In 1541, it was converted into an evangelical parish church. A comprehensive elevation of both the church and its tower by one story was undertaken in the 18th century to accommodate the installation of a second gallery. An early Gothic arcaded frieze still marks the upper edge of the original roof section above the first row of windows. The cemetery, which was located directly next to the church until 1837, was subsequently moved to a new site.

On site+
Today, the Evangelical Church of Münster is a protected architectural monument in Baden-Württemberg and continues to function as an active place of worship. Its Romanesque architectural style is characterized by a nave and a late Romanesque chancel tower with a pyramidal roof. The uppermost wooden story of the tower, added in the 18th century, houses the clock, while the bell chamber is located in the floor below, behind biforium sound openings. Inside, partially preserved frescoes from around 1400 adorn the choir, which features a Gothic rib vault. A Renaissance pulpit from 1585 and a Baroque altar from 1746 complement the interior furnishings. Several 18th-century grave slabs are also embedded in the south wall.
