Dalarö Fortress
South of the town of Dalarö in Sweden is Dalarö Fortress. Its history dates back to the early 17th century, although it was never involved in military conflicts.
History+
The origins of Dalarö Fortress lie in an older fortification from 1623. In 1656, the Swedish King Charles X Gustav commissioned the construction of the current fortress on these foundations. Between 1683 and 1698, the complex underwent expansion under the direction of Erik Dahlbergh. Dalarö Fortress was never besieged. In 1854, it was decommissioned.
