Fredriksberg Fortress, a historic defensive structure, is strategically located on the highest point of the Nordnes peninsula in Bergen, Norway. Its position with a steep cliff face towards the sea made it an important defensive point in the region.

History+

The planning and construction of Fredriksberg Fortress began between 1666 and 1667 under the direction of the Dutch engineer Major General Henrik Ruse. The complex was designed with three bastions and was named in honor of King Fredrik III of Norway. After initial delays and a deterioration of the fortifications, construction resumed in 1695 at the behest of Christian Gyldenløve, the son of Christian V of Denmark, and was finally completed in 1706. Throughout its history, the fortress also served as an execution site. Later, between 1888 and 1898, Nordnes Park was created on the former fortifications.
