Fortress Ingolstadt-Cavalier Elbracht

Cavalier Elbracht was constructed in the 19th century as part of the inner fortress ring of the former Ingolstadt State Fortress.
History+
Cavalier Elbracht was built between 1839 and 1844. It was part of the reconstruction of Ingolstadt's fortifications, known as the Classicist Fortress, which took place from 1828 to 1849. This new construction was realized under the direction of Michael von Streiter and later Peter von Becker, after the original fortifications had been destroyed by Napoleonic troops in 1801. King Ludwig I designated Ingolstadt as the site for the new Royal Bavarian Main State Fortress, against other proposals. The construction work employed up to 7,000 workers at times.
