History+
Construction of Fort X Hagau began in November 1875 and was completed in December 1878. The associated connecting batteries were finished in April 1879. Further reinforcement measures on the work took place between September 1888 and June 1891. The fort was built as part of the expansion of the outer fort belt of the Ingolstadt State Fortress, which became necessary due to advancing artillery technology and the resulting increased range of shells. This outer ring comprised a total of seven intermediate works and nine outer forts, of which only a few remain today.
