History+

The Ingolstadt State Fortress was expanded into a fortress starting in 1537 under Duke Wilhelm IV. After the Thirty Years' War, the facilities were reinforced and expanded between 1654 and 1662 under Christoph Heidemann. During the War of the Spanish Succession and the War of the Austrian Succession, the fortress was the site of sieges and capitulations. Following its destruction by Napoleonic troops in 1800, reconstruction as a Neoclassical fortress began in 1828 under Michael von Streiter and Peter von Becker.
